Date: Saturday 21st March 2015

Venue: Boulevard Brasserie, 40 Wellington Street, London WC2E 7BD (tube: Covent Garden)

Time: 12:30 for 1pm

We are delighted to welcome Baroness Jill Pitkeathley (née Bisson) to be our speaker at a lunch on 21st March 2015.

Baroness Pitkeathley was born in Guernsey and was an evacuee in Yorkshire during the second world war. She then attended Capelles School and the Ladies College, and took her degree at Bristol University.

She was chief executive of Carers UK for which she was awarded the OBE in 1993, and became a life peer in 1997. Since 1998 Baroness Pitkeathley has been chair of one of the lottery fund distributors, and in 2004 she was appointed chair of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service, the independent body set up to safeguard the welfare of children in family court proceedings. Since 2002 she has also worked as Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chair of Committees in the House of Lords, and is a senior Labour Party member. She is a member of the Parliamentary All Party Channel Islands Group, and her dedication to Guernsey is such that her son was born on 9th May! She is a regular visitor to Guernsey, often in an official capacity.

She has been recognised around the world for her support of social rights. I am sure that Baroness Pitkeathley will have a fascinating personal story to tell, and if you would like to hear it, please either send a cheque for £30 (payable to ‘The Guernsey Society’) to Keith Le Page, or make payment through Paypal using the link below. Space will be limited at our venue, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
